Fortune 500: Wal-Mart, Fannie Mae and the rest of the top ten - BlogPost - The Washington Post
Retail behemoth Wal-Mart topped the Fortune 500 list, with Exxon Mobil, General Electric and Ford Motor also among the top ten most profitable corporations in the United States. In case you were wondering, none of these companies were on Fortune’s 25 “Best Companies to Work For.” Here’s a rundown of the top ten, released Thursday: Wal-Mart: With more than $421 million in revenue, the Wal-Mart chain of stores, known for their florescent lighting and cheap prices, topped the list for the second year in a row. If working for this number one company appeals to you, you can apply for one of the 1,000 jobs available.
Exxon Mobil: The oil company maintained its number two rank, thanks in part, Fortune reports, to higher prices for crude oil. The company is currently looking to “hire exceptional people” to fill 2,300 openings.
Chevron and ConocoPhillips: These two petroleum refining companies took the number three and four spots on the list.
